- Collections
- Wireless Internet Access
- Laptops
- Photocopying & Printing
Library Services (Reference, Circulation & Reserve Collection)
Law Library Services are temporarily located on the ground floor of the Health, Nursing and Environmental Studies (HNES) Building, Room 018.
From this location, we are able to offer full reference services and research assistance to students, faculty and visitors. The facility also offers a complete law reference collection, including the Canadian Abridgment 3d and theCanadian Encyclopedic Digest 3d. Complete sets of federal and Ontario statutes and regulations and some selected law reports (SCR, FC, DLR, OLR, OR, All ER) are also available.
Study Facilities & Reading Rooms
Osgoode Library Services in HNES 018 provides seating for 30 people at study tables/carrels. There are also 18 PC workstations (16 of which are reserved to the use of Osgoode students) with wireless access to the Osgoode network and to the Internet.
A separate Osgoode Reading Room, reserved exclusively for use by Osgoode law students, is located on the 5th floor of the Scott Library. The reading room is access-controlled; the keypad combination is changed weekly and posted on MyPage on the MyOsgoode student portal.
Collections
Because of the move to temporary facilities and the limited space available, not all of the Osgoode Hall Law School Library collections are available. The disposition of the collections is as follows:
- The Reference and Reserve collections are available in Osgoode Library Services in HNES 018.
- Law texts with in the call number range KF 390.5 to KF 5505 have been temporarily located to the 4th floor of the Scott Library. The temporary location is indicated in the online catalogue.
- Law texts in the call number ranges HF to JX and KF 5506 to W are located in closed stacks but are available for loan. Requests for any title can be submitted online (from an online form linked from the catalogue record for each title). Requested texts can be picked up at the Circulation Desk in Osgoode Library Services (HNES 018) within 3 hours of submitting the request. Requested items are held for pickup until noon the next day, after which time they will be reshelved.
- Law texts in the call number ranges A-HE and X-Z are in offsite storage and cannot be retrieved. Unfortunately, they will remain unavailable until the library reopens in the new premises in 2011.
- The library's rare books and special collections (Balfour Halévy Special Collections), with the exception of "Osgoodiana" archival materials, are available for use. Requests must be submitted at the Circulation Desk in Osgoode Library Services in HNES 018.
- All microform (microfiche and microfilm) collections are also available, though not publicly-accessible. Requests must be submitted at the Circulation Desk in HNES 018.
Unfortunately, all other law materials -- statutes (STAT), law reports (REP) and bound periodicals (PER) -- have been put into storage until the library reopens in 2011 and are not available for loan. Most of these materials are now available in online/digital formats or via interlibrary. Please enquire at the Reference Desk.
Wireless Internet Access
Wireless access to the Internet is available in both the Osgoode Library Services area (HNES 018) and in the Osgoode Reading Room (Scott Library, 5th floor) for users with suitable equipment.
Laptops
Osgoode students may borrow a wireless-ready laptop computer for use in the library. The normal loan period is 4 hours but all laptops must be returned half an hour before library closing. Late returns are subject to overdue charges of $3.00 per hour or any part thereof. Laptops can be requested at the Circulation Desk.
Photocopying & Printing
Self-service photocopier/printers are located in Osgoode Library Services in HNES 018 and in the Osgoode Reading Room on the 5th floor of the Scott Library. The YU-card is now the exclusive payment method for photocopying and printing; Osgoode Library copy cards will no longer be accepted. If you are a non-York member or visitor to the campus and do not have a YU-card, you may purchase a Guest Card from the YU-card account station locations in Osgoode Library Services and in the Scott Library. As of July 1, 2009, the cost per photocopy is 10 cents.
Library photocopiers are designed to copy library materials only. Information on copyright and the Access Copyright Agreement is available near photocopy machines.
