Collections

The Law Library has extensive holdings in the legal literature of Canada (both the English common law and French civil law traditions), Great Britain, the United States, and other common law countries. The library has especially strong collections of law reports, statutes, law journals and, of course, texts. Our reference collection holds a wide selection of law dictionaries, legal bibliographies and law lists and legal directories, as well as the essential finding tools (legal encyclopaedias, digest services and citators) used for locating relevant legal materials.

The Balfour Halévy Special Collections of historic Canadian and British legal materials are unrivalled in Canada. They are comprised of Canadian legal materials published through 1923; British and Irish materials published through 1860; early trials published through 1900; civl law material published in France through 1900 which is relevant to Quebec; some Canadian and British manuscripts; as well as a small number of broadsides, mainly from England. There is also a separate collection of Osgoodiana, i.e., materials produced at or about Osgoode Hall Law School (e.g. casebooks and theses).
