Generally all materials requested through interlibrary loan are picked up at the Circulation Desk.
Most requests for articles arrive within 2-5 days. Loans usually arrive in 4-10 days. Requests for very old difficult and/or obscure documents may take a little longer to fill. When the request is received, the patron will be notified by e-mail. Please note that most lending libraries allow 3 weeks use.
Osgoode Faculty & Students
The Osgoode Hall Law Library provides professional, fast and efficient interlibrary loan service to Osgoode faculty and students. To assist you with your research, we will obtain any materials required by you that are not held by any of the libraries at York and/or is not available from electronic journals or online sources such as Westlaw,LexisNexis/ Quicklaw. When a book is charged out to another patron, please place a HOLD or RECALL request on that item. This service is free for all Osgoode faculty and students.
To make an interlibrary loan request, please use RACER.
Racer First Time Users
Click here to register as a patron of the RACER interlibrary loans system operated by the Ontario Council of University Libraries. By registering from this page, you indicate that you are a member of the Osgoode Hall Law School entitled to interlibrary loan privileges through the Law Library. You will be prompted for your MyOsgoode username and password. You will need to choose your own password for RACER. As part of the registration process, you will also be asked to provide personal information to the system (student/employee number, address, email, etc.) This process ensures that personal information about members of the Osgoode community is not provided to the Ontario Council of University Libraries without the knowledge and consent of each individual registrant.
You will receive an e-mail confirmation of your registration from RACER. Until you receive this e-mail confirmation you will not be able to log-in to make requests.
Part-Time LL.M Students (OPD)
Students in this stream of the programme are unable to use RACER for interlibrary loans. Please note that if you are outside the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) book loans cannot be obtained for you from other libraries.
The Interlibrary Loan Department will:
- obtain any material required in any format that is not available in the York University Library system;
- obtain a photocopy of any journal article, case, statute etc that is not available in the York University Library system or online in any of the legal databases;
- fax short articles, cases etc (up to 10 pages) at a cost of $1.00 per page;
- mail articles, cases etc to you free of charge;
- place materials obtained via interlibrary loan at the Law Library Circulation Desk for you to pick up.
Please note that if you reside outside the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), the following in-house services will be available to you:
- make photocopies of materials held by the Law Library if the material is NOT available in a library near the student;
- photocopies cost 30cents a page;
- copied materials will be mailed at no extra charge;
- up to 30 pages may be faxed at $1.00 per page;
- courier delivery is available at the student's expense;
- invoice for charges will be sent out by the Interlibrary Loan Office;
- Osgoode Law Library books may be sent if such is not available in any library near the student.

External Libraries
External libraries are encouraged to use RACER to place their interlibrary loan requests. The libraries without an interlibrary loan management system should use OCUL Web Forms to make requests. Alternatively, requests may be sent by e-mail to lawill@osgoode.yorku.ca or Fax 416 736-5298 or ARIEL 130.63.60.20. Requests are usually processed within 24 hours. Please provide as much information as possible including your address and phone number. Reference texts, periodicals, DVDs (fiction) and items on Reserve are not available for loan.

- Mail Delivery: No additional charge. Courier fee must be absorbed by the borrowing library.

Members of the Public
The Law Library does not provide interlibrary loan service for members of the public. We encourage these patrons to come to the Law Library in person or to consult the interlibrary loan service at their public library.
