Loan Renewals
Loans can be renewed using the following methods:
- Online – An online self-renewal service is available on http://www.library.yorku.ca . Under the heading SERVICES, select Borrow and Renew, Under Renew, click on Online. A valid library card and your PIN are required for this service.
- In Person – At the Circulation Desk at any of the libraries. Materials and a valid library card must be presented in order to provide the information required for renewal transactions. 14 day loans are limited to one renewal provided there are no other requests for those items.
Holds
Materials can be placed on hold if you locate an item in the library catalogue that has been checked out and there is no other copy available. Please complete an online HOLD request by clicking on the HOLD ITEM button at the bottom or top of the screen. If the item is out on a 14 day loan, a HOLD will be placed for you. If it is out on a 100 day loan a RECALL will be made. When the item is returned, it will be held for you for 7 days. If there is an additional hold request for an item the normal loan period will be reduced to 7 days. Online requests are placed on the next working day. HOLD requests can also be placed at the Circulation Desk of any of the York University Libraries.
Searches
If you are unable to locate an item, please enquire at the Circulation Desk. If the item is not out on loan, you can request a SEARCH. You will be notified by email when the book is located and it will be held for you for 7 days. SEARCH request forms are available at the Circulation Desk.
Reserve Collection
The Library Catalogue will indicate LAW-RESV as the location for these materials. Please obtain call number from the online catalogue and request at the Circulation Desk. Overdue fines are calculated at $3.00 per hour or any part thereof on all Reserve items. External Borrowers may use Reserve materials on a READING ROOM ONLY basis. Reserve materials cannot be renewed.
Microforms
Microfilm and microfiche collections and readers are located in the Reading Room, east of the courtyard. Printing is available on the reader-printer by use of a copy card only at 9 cents per exposure. Circulating microform may be borrowed for the same loan period as circulating books.
Special and Retrospective Collection
Materials from the Special and Retrospective Collection can be requested at the Circulation Desk and they will be retrieved within one to two hours. Loan period is 3 hours and use is restricted to the Reading Room only. Photocopying or other types of reproduction of material by borrowers is not allowed, however, photocopying arrangements can be made through the library staff. If making notes while reading these materials, please avoid using pens or other instruments which could cause inadvertent damage.

Bronfman Business Library, Scott and Steacie) and the Glendon campus library (Frost). If you locate a circulating item from the Frost collection in the Libraries’ Catalogue and you would like to have it transferred here, click on the ICB button at the bottom or top of the screen and complete the online request form. When the item from Frost arrives at the Law Library, you will be notified and it will be held for you for a period of 7 days.
