What We Have

As would be expected of the largest law library in the Commonwealth, Osgoode Hall Law School Library has extensive holdings in the legal literature of Canada (both the English common law and French civil law traditions), Great Britain, the United States, and other common law countries. The library has especially strong collections of law reports, statutes, law journals and, of course, treatises. Our reference collection holds a wide selection of law dictionaries, legal bibliographies, law lists and legal directories, as well as the essential finding tools (legal encyclopaedias, digest services and citators) used for locating relevant legal materials.

The Library's Balfour Halévy Special Collections of historic Canadian and British legal materials are unrivalled in Canada. They are comprised of Canadian legal materials published through 1923; British and Irish materials published through 1860; early trials published through 1900; civil law material published in France through 1900 which are relevant to Quebec; some Canadian and British manuscripts; as well as a small number of broadsides, mainly from England. There is also a separate collection of Osgoodiana, i.e., materials produced at or about Osgoode Hall Law School (e.g. casebooks, theses and publications by Osgoode faculty).
